It’s been three years since Adele released an album, but don’t expect any new music from the Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter anytime soon. The 36-year-old star told German outlet ZDF that she has no plans to make music in the near future—in fact, she’s planning on taking a “big break” once her Las Vegas residency is over, according to The Mirror.
Adele has been on a hiatus from her residency since June but will return to Vegas in October and finish out the run in November, about two years after it began. After that, she’ll be enjoying some much-needed time off.
“I don’t have any plans for new music at all,” she said. “I want a big break after this and I think I want to do other creative things. Just for a little while.”
“I don’t like being famous,” she added. “I love that I get to make music all the time.”
Fans didn’t take kindly to the career update, with one noting, “My heart just shattered,” as another echoed, “We weren’t expecting music for like a decade but damn this still stings.”
Someone else pointed out: “She was already taking a 6 year break between her albums so just how long will this one be???
Adele has yet to share any details about what those “creative things” might be, but she told The Hollywood Reporter that she never considered acting, with one exception.
“There is one movie I want to do, but the guy whose movie it would be, he’s not mentally ready to write the script for it,” she said.
When pressed for the would-be screenwriter’s identity, she refused to give details except to say it was someone people know.
“I’m not giving you no clues, though. But I bug him every now and then about it, but he’s just not there yet. But that’s the only role I ever want. Because I think I’d nail it. I think I’d do really, really, really good at it.”
In the meantime, she does have one last musical commitment to fulfill before her Vegas residency wraps up as she’s scheduled to play a series of eight concerts during the month of August in Munich at a “bespoke venue.”
Following the end of her Vegas run, Adele is reportedly moving back to the U.K. As a source told The Sun, “Adele is a Brit through and through and London will always be her home.”
Perhaps she’ll make an exception if the right Hollywood project comes calling. -parade
