Eddie finds out the truth, Kevin transforms, Harry gets stabbed, and Conrad and Maeve plan their post-prison future.
Seeing as last week’s MobLand concluded with Conrad (Pierce Brosnan) and Maeve (Helen Mirren) nearly coming to blows seconds before the police carted them off to prison, the season’s penultimate episode easily could have worked as its capper.
But as the finale — dubbed “The Beast in Me” — proves in its very first scene, the crime family still has plenty of unfinished business to attend to before packing it in. For starters, Kevin’s (Paddy Considine) transformation from PTSD-suffering victim to Harrigan supervillain has yet to reach its final stage.

The episode begins with him having a heart-to-heart with Rusby (Nigel Lindsay). Of course, since the retired prison guard’s brains are splattered all over his kitchen, Kev is doing all the talking. “My son is my brother, my wife is my dad’s sloppy seconds…” he rambles to the man with the massive exit wound in his head. He finishes by revealing to his dead confidant that Maeve turned him into the monster he has become, a doomed fate he had hoped to protect Eddie (Anson Boon) from.
Meanwhile, the monster-maker herself and her husband are having their mug shots taken before getting outfitted for prison garb. With the Harrigan heads detained, Harry (Tom Hardy) is taking care of business from his HQ at the docks. The fixer is sitting down with O’Hara (Lisa Dwan), intimidating the attorney into revealing the truth of her betrayal. Turns out she’s been Richie’s (Geoff Bell) rat for nine months, not only working with him on the fentanyl biz, but also sharing damaging Harrigan family secrets.
Harry next meets with Kev, who’s just had his little mess cleaned up by Kiko (Antonio González Guerrero) and Zosia (Jasmine Jobson). He opens up to Harry about Rusby abusing him and Eddie’s true parentage. But to his dismay, Harry’s already aware of the latter thanks to Bella (Lara Pulver) spilling the beans. Sensing Kev’s brain is a bit scrambled, Harry insists he get his head in the game for the coming battle with Richie.
Harrigan assures him that he’s good to go but needs to run an errand first. That detour is a visit to see his dear old dad in prison. Kev quickly becomes emotional and lays everything out, even telling Conrad about Rusby abusing him. But as he spills his guts, he also grows angry, ultimately blaming his father for all his problems.
Kev tells Conrad he’s done pretending to respect and trust him, and if he ever gets out of prison, he can expect to return to a new world order — one in which he runs the show and suffers no bulls––. Aside from a staggeringly inappropriate remark about Bella’s private parts, the Harrigan patriarch remains mostly speechless.
While Kevin lays down the law with Conrad, Eddie’s having a very different conversation with Maeve. She tells him Harry is working alongside Alice (Emily Barber) and Seraphina (Mandeep Dhillon) to take down the family. “It’s a f—ing coup,” she insists. “You have to kill Harry and Seraphina.”

Eddie tries to keep up but begins losing the plot when she talks of her own “new world order,” one in which they will rule as king and queen.
When he refers to Maeve as his grandmother, she scoffs before it dawns on her that he doesn’t know the truth about Conrad being his real father. As she abruptly prepares to drop that bomb on him, the scene skips to Eddie exiting the prison. He initially seems shocked and befuddled, but then he confidently strides forward as if he’s found a new sense of purpose.
Back at the Harrigan house, we get a bit of background on Eddie’s upbringing. Bella tells Gina (Teddie Allen) that her son was a nice, normal boy until around age 13, when Maeve got into his head. Elsewhere at the family estate, Seraphina takes a call from Kat McAllister (Janet McTeer). The crime boss tells the Harrigan daughter she’s smart, but that Conrad has lost his grip and his reign is over. Intrigued, Seraphina accepts a lunch meeting request from Kat.
At an undisclosed rendezvous point, a different double cross is in the works. Tattersall (Toby Jones) meets with Alice to confirm that her fake, planted DNA evidence will be put to good use — Fisk (Luke Mably) and Mukasa’s (Gemma Knight Jones) murders will be pinned on Maeve and Conrad. After handing the undercover officer a backpack full of cash, Tattersall exits the vehicle. Two men then enter, incapacitate Alice with a chloroform-soaked cloth, then drive off. Outside, the corrupt copper calls Richie to let him know the job is done.
Back in the city, O’Hara gets a call from Harry. “Here’s what I need you to do,” he begins. We then see Richie picking up an urgent call from O’Hara — she wants to meet him at the Sinful Monkey. At their sit-down, she informs him that Harry knows she’s a rat and that she’s been sent to set Stevenson up. O’Hara is to invite Richie to her office, where Harry and his crew will ambush him.
To prove her loyalty, she then — in front of Stevenson — calls Harry and sets up the setup. She also tells Richie where Jan (Joanne Froggatt), Gina, Bella, Seraphina, and Eddie are hiding out, suggesting he strike while they’re unprotected. With the plan in place, Richie orders a small army to O’Hara’s office and another to the safe house. “Today, we win this war,” he tells his men.
At the Harrigan bunker, Bella is watching her father getting grilled at a press conference. It seems her shady deal with Antoine (Grégoire Colin) was all part of an elaborate plan to ruin him. As we hear her dad make claims of “recorded comments taken out of context,” Eddie storms in. He wants answers.
Bella confirms that Conrad is indeed his father but assures Eddie that she loves him. As she hugs her son, he begins choking her. “Nobody lies to me anymore,” he growls while tightening his grip around her throat. As she gasps what seems like her last breath, Kiko comes in and pulls Eddie off her. He tosses him towards Zosia, who introduces her clenched fist to Eddie’s gut. Bella tells them to leave her son alone.

In London, Richie’s men are arriving at O’Hara’s office to ambush the ambush. As they enter the building, Harrigan head henchman Paul (Emmett J. Scanlan) watches from a distance. Meanwhile, Richie has O’Hara call Harry to tell him she and Stevenson are all alone at the office.
At the same time, more of Richie’s heavies arrive at the safe house. As they sneak inside, Jan, Gina, Bella, and Seraphina sneak outside. Stevenson’s men call their boss to inform him the place is empty. Just then, Kiko and Zosia toss a grenade into the room; following its lethal blast, Harry’s dynamic duo rush in to finish the job. One of Richie’s men gets the jump on Kiko, though, firing a shot into his chest.
The Harrigan rival tries to wrap his head around what’s happening. As things spiral out of control, he angrily interrogates O’Hara at the Sinful Monkey. Meanwhile, Paul triggers a detonator, blowing up her office and killing Stevenson’s men inside. Harry and Kev then roll up to the pub and immediately take out a couple of Richie’s goons by the bar.
They then storm into Stevenson’s office. Richie takes O’Hara hostage, desperately shielding himself with her body. Having no love for the Harrigan rat, Harry and Kev shoot right through her to reach Richie. Kev puts two more holes in the crime boss before ordering him to look him in the eye. As blood spills from Richie’s mouth, he smiles and laughs at Kev, who responds, “The Harrigans say hello.” Kev then puts a final shot through one of Richie’s eyes. Nearby on the floor, O’Hara trembles and begs for her life. Harry ends her with a single bullet to the head.
The next scene finds Maeve in her prison cell, receiving a text from an unknown caller on a burner phone — it reads, “The war is won.” She immediately dials up Conrad, who’s also getting cozy behind bars, and confesses she was not only behind everything, but that it was all a test. He scoffs, laughs, and calls her a “f—ing mad bitch.”
But Maeve insists, comparing herself to a merciless Mother Nature, who is beloved despite her brutality. She claims to have been testing the entire family, especially her husband. She then warns him that the test isn’t over. She finally concludes, “And that, Conrad, is why you love me.”
He concedes that he does indeed love every part of her being. With that sorted, Maeve moves on to the next order of business: “How the f— do we get out of here?” But it seems Harry is already working on that. Back at the docks, he shares an audio file with Kev. The evening he seemingly allowed Alice to leave the Harrigans’ — with their DNA — without a hitch, he secretly recorded her plan to plant the fake evidence.

We briefly return to the safe house and the Sinful Monkey, where we’re given a sobering peek at the aftermath of the crime families’ final showdown. At the former, Zosia quietly sits with Kiko, who has just succumbed to his gunshot wound. Jan enters, but is shaken by the carnage surrounding her. She hastily ushers Zosia out. At the Monkey, Tattersall surveys the crime scene in disbelief as police photographers snap pics of Stevenson and O’Hara’s bodies.
While the war with Richie has been won, Harry still needs to answer to Kat. They meet and briefly discuss Stevenson’s demise. Kat, however, is anxious to begin the next battle. She asks for Harry’s help in eliminating Conrad, Kevin, and Seraphina. She follows this with a lucrative offer that would have Harry swapping sides and working for her.
He politely declines and asks Kat to respect his loyalty to Conrad. She presses the issue, though, insisting she’s trying to help him escape a sinking ship. Kat claims she will take the Harrigans down with or without Harry’s help. The fixer continues to respectfully, albeit less politely, decline. Unaccustomed to being denied what she wants, Kat subtly threatens Harry’s family and tells him he’s making a big mistake. “We will see,” he calmly responds before walking out.
At the Harrigan mansion, Kevin and Bella are having their most intimate conversation of the season. Due to the former apparently talking in his sleep, his wife is well aware of the sexual abuse he endured in prison. Bella shares that she was also raped, by her father, ultimately leading her to ruin his life and reputation with the Antoine deal.
As the two comfort each other, Kev asks if he can count on his wife to stand by him or if she’ll align with Conrad. He tells her big changes are coming, and that the real fight will start when his parents are released from prison. She tenderly touches his face, holds his hand, and responds, “I’m with you.”
While Kev and Bella are reconciling, Harry and Jan are falling apart. He greets her in the kitchen, where she’s coping with the day’s chaos by chopping vegetables. He tells her Richie is dead and promises that everything will be different. Jan, however, is not hearing any of it — she doesn’t want this life for her or their daughter anymore.
Her growing anger causes her to accidentally slice her finger. Harry tries to check the wound, making her even madder. She yells, flails, and accidentally — sort of — stabs him in the chest. Jan panics, but Harry tells her he’s fine and not to worry. He calmly walks into another room, sits down, and glances at the blade deeply embedded in him.
“F—ing hell, Jan,” he says, “Well, now you have my complete attention.” The two exchange strained chuckles.

As the season finale draws to a close, Conrad confidently exits his jail cell. While the Rolling Stones’ “Sympathy for the Devil” plays over the scene, the Harrigan patriarch — sporting a gray inmate sweatsuit — struts among the facility’s general population.
The other prisoners enthusiastically clap and cheer for him. Conrad eats it up, repeatedly yelling, “Bring it on!” and pumping his fists. Surrounded by his adoring fans, he then begins egging them on. Conrad throws up a middle finger, yells “f— ’em!,” and grabs his crotch before the screen goes black on MobLand‘s first season. / ew.com
